I am declaring the beginning of the next chapter in the book of my life.  I decided after my last show on Memorial Day Weekend to finally stop going.  I am taking myself off the road; I am not planning to do anymore hair, trade, cultural, or jazz shows in town or out of town.  I am stopping. Pausing...to really work on what I believe God wants me to do.  Earlier this year I got a revelation from God to speak and to write.  It has been ruminating in my soul every since.  But like most times...you keep going and going and don't follow the instructions until you feel you are ready or comfortable.  I do understand mentally that change is usually uncomfortable.  Stopping yourself in motion and being still is probably one of the hardest things that we must do as human beings.  At the same time that I have been conscious of the possibilities that lie ahead and even feeling excited about them most of the time, I do discern the spirit of fear that always accompanies it.  Whenever you choose

OMG!  This has been the longest I have been away from you all.  Well, it feels good to be back writing again.  This is really what I love to do!  I guess what I really love is Communication, whether is oral or written.  In any case, once March hits my Show calendar begins;  I have been at the Baltimore Natural Hair Show, The World Natural Hair, Health & Beauty Show in Atlanta (as an Instructor teaching "Hair Adornment"), DanceAfrica @ BAM, and lastly Capital Jazz festival in MD.  So...I am just now catching my breath and getting ready for Saratoga Jazz Festival next weekend.  But....I wanted to just reconnect.  I am planning to put on the brakes and get off the road after July, so that I can focus on my work differently.  This is much easier said that done.  It's such a total act of Faith! I was going to begin by saying Beauty is not born, it is created, but then I thought again.  Actually, we are born beautiful!  God...The Master...so beautifully and wonderfully made us and that's the beginning and end of it.  As infants...no one even considers challenging this notion.  As young children we are able to hold on this reality; young children are still yet beautiful. As time goes on however...the older we get...shamefully and sorrowfully... we are robbed of our identity and sense of "being beautiful just as God made us."  Beginning with our families and then through the culture, society and humanity that we all abide in, our natural God given beauty becomes increasing diminished and corroded.  The vicissitudes and hardness of life and "socialization" soon has us questioning God's creation mandate.  This condition grows, festers and becomes full blown.  It's only by a "rebirth" that we can reclaim and re-establish that we are beautif

When most people think about Beauty they immediately think about physical beauty; appearance, looks.  Basically, what they see with their eyes.  Beauty is SO much more than  physical appearance.  If you research  various aspects or definitions of Beauty,  you will often find reference to a "radiance".  Beauty has everything to do with "an aura", "an atmosphere", "a presence", "a field" and most definitely "a Spirit".  Some even say that they actually see the radiant light surrounding "a beautiful person."  Many of the principles that we deal with as human beings are often so far removed and lofty.  One of my purposes in communicating with you, is to take information and make it practical, functional and useful. Recently I was sharing something with a friend and I began to "hear her listening".  It caused me to stop talking.  As I was processing what happened it made me think about LISTENING.  The ability to hear is a gift from God.  As one of our primary senses, we often take for granted the privileged listening that we enjoy; music, children playing, the wind, each other voices, and so much more. Obviously, one important part of appreciating this gift comes through our relationships; basically, when we speak to one another. I excused myself from the above mentioned conversation partly because I felt my friend was getting caught up on the peripheral details of my story.  I find that this is pretty common these days.  Most people are not listening because they have too many questions to ask (while you are talking to them).  This could be either because they are intent on listening and they want to make sure they understand you or more often than not, it's because that's what

Good Day.  These days as I prepare to write or even speak for that matter, I sort of feel like a broken record.  It seems the older I get, there are core, repetitive, principles or ideals that I keep coming back to.  One of those core principles has to do with the condition of one's heart.  I actually went back to review my previous posts, because I felt that I had written about this before...and I did.  So...I thought, what new dimension can I bring to this to make it fuller.  Ah...the concept is "motivation".  What actually colors the condition of one's heart is one's motivation. I realize that this is a "spiritual" thing. Perhaps that's why it's so hard for us to distinguish.   First of all, you will not see it if you are not looking for it.  I suppose many of us, go through day to day living without getting too deep into inquiring within ourselves, what motivates us to do the things we do and say. As it is now Women's Herstory Month, my mind has been inquiring on what's in my heart to speak to women.  I am a woman.  I absolutely love being a woman.  When I think about all of the women that I know and love...even those unknown personally but in Spirit...my heart overflows.  As I seek the words to acknowledge, praise and honor Women, it seems insufficient.  There is a Glory, a Phenomenal...ness, a Power, a Strength, a Knowing, a Beauty, a Loving, a Caring, a Resilience, a Spirit that walks through us so profoundly that it transcends language.  I have come to realize that most  of us  take for granted what is present;  especially those who abide with us on a daily basis; our parents, our loves ones, our lovers, our friends.  Not until "the absence" of that someone, do we become appreciative of  who was right there before us.  She is the one who has been there for us,  who keeps us, holds us, loves us unconditionally, secures us, stabilizes us, encourages us, and d

MADAME CJ WALKER As an Entrepreneur, you become somewhat isolated.  Once you take yourself off of the plantation, you no longer have the throng of people that you work with.  It definitely is a great contrast to the job scene.  I had to take my 10 year old granddaughter "Heaven" to her performance for Black History Month at her school and it made me think.  I realized that as an Entrepreneur, I don't get a lot of the social components of "having a job" i.e. office parties, holiday parties and events.   As we are in the last days before "V" Day...I am considering my thoughts on Love.  I realize, like most people I have probably made a mess out of Love. It seems to be the human thing...to err, tear up, mess up and destroy.  But...I dare say the biggest "human thing", let's call it the theme of Life, is the discovery, yearning for and pursuing of Love.  It begins in the cradle and goes all the way to the grave; from being an innocent, helpless baby to becoming an innocent, helpless elder.  The journey in between is fundamentally about Love.  I have struggled and grown and hopefully will continue to grow in this thing called Love.  On the basic fronts of Love; family, friends, and lovers - the verdict is still out. I remember when I was a little younger, Valentine's Day was such a big deal for me.  I had much anticipation and expectation about what I would get, as a symbol of his real love for me.  He had better get me something...and not just anything, but something "really" nice...or at least romantic.  Of course, chocolates, flowers, a lovely scarf, or a diamond bracelet would be really nice.  After many occasions of disappointment (life experience) and some maturity, I got my expectations in check.  Guess how? As we are approaching the "Love" Day, Valentine's Day, my mind is roaming the terrain of Love.  Now, I'll admit I am not a Master when it comes to the game of Love, that is, intimate, one on one, man-woman kinda love.  I am still on the court with that, but...I think I can speak about some aspects of Love. I started to call what I wanted to speak about,  Agape Love.  So I looked it up to be sure of what I was saying.  I found these 3 main distinctions of Love.     Eros love - known as 'erotic love', is based on strong romantic feelings towards another. So glad to be here today.  This subject has been on my mind for almost 2 weeks. I have been speaking about the auspicious season and time that we entered starting at the holiday season of Thanksgiving through the New Year.  Well, we have entered into the New Year and I  believe we are in an undeclared season.  We always hear about "Spring Cleaning" when the Spring arrives but we never hear of a "Winter Cleaning" time.  Well,  I declare this is the season of Winter Cleaning. The reason I put so much emphasis on the subject of seasons and times is because I believe we go through the motions, rituals and experiences of these seasons but not on a conscious level.  I have observed these seasons and I believe in the principle of "naming" and "identifying" patterns in life - because knowledge and awareness gives you power and choice.  "Knowing" enables and empowers you to choose how you want to handle things.   We all know Winter as cold an

What a powerful day!  What a glorious day! 1/1/11 - New Year's Day.  I see significance in these numbers - ones all the way through.  Symbolically, one's represent so many things...unity, integrity, strength, completion.  These auspicious numbers combined with  the start of a New Year, a new beginning, has got to be awesome . As I have spent this day in solitude, reflecting and visioning my mind upon how I would like 2011 to be and looking back on the year gone by, 2010, it is definitely about the Power Of One!  Personally, I have been stripped of many people this year and most of them were the closest people around me; both friends and family.  Don't misunderstand, I see it as a good thing.  Change...clarity...maturity...learning from the lessons of life, I respect and appreciate.  Seasons...that's one thing that I find myself acknowledging more and more these days...the seasons of Life.  The ebb and flow of people being moved out as new relationships need to come in..
