A Secret to A Fulfilling Life

Something has been ruminating in my Spirit for a while now.  It is a subject that continually comes into my daily life and into the lives of others that I observe.  It is a universal and perpetual conversation of humanity. I believe it is something that we all reckon with until we leave here. What is it you ask?  It is the concept of
"the process".

It is spoken of very matter-of- factly by most.  As we go through personal trials and tribulations, feelings of doubt, challenges, not understanding...Life, we usually comfort ourselves with the notion and satisfaction that well, "Life is a process...it is a process." The depth of this concept however is really profound if you are trying to grasp it and work powerfully with it.  We all know the cliches'...the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step...the race is given not to the swift but to the one that endures to the end, etc. On the court (in Life) however, it is a lot easier said than done! Honoring "the process" is one of the most important and fundamental concepts that  we must learn to integrate and become intimate with, if we are to be fulfilled in life.

What I have discovered is that consciously or subconsciously I/we always want the result and we want it immediately.  We have been waiting for it, hoping for it, longing for it and it is taking way too long to manifest. Sounds like impatience right?  What we are dealing with is our expectations, our hopes, our desires, our dreams...and we want them fulfilled.  The ominous and proverbial question is "How Long"?  How long will it take before I can have this or that? How long before I can feel that unbelievable and eternal Joy?  How long before I feel true satisfaction? completion? the utmost Love? On its own, reconciling this dissonance is tough enough. Often we make matters worse by comparing our lives to other people’s lives within our personal spheres and even outside of it i.e. celebrities and stars.

What I know is that, Life is the sum total of these seemingly small steps. It is revealed one piece, one episode, one moment or one event at a time.  You can't fast forward it and you can't rewind it.  It moves steadily forward, unfolding as we move through it.

So... here's a classic question:  What is more important?  The means to the end or the end itself? Sages of old and new tell us this one thing, to enjoy this present moment, wake up and smell the roses (or coffee), enjoy the journey, the ride and so on. Well it is not so trite you know.

Here is what I believe and what I strive for daily. I think it is key.  I will call it "my 2 P's". My first P is, being on Purpose. Every day I must know and work with a clear purpose in mind.  What do I want to achieve with the gift of 24 hours that I am being given/granted/graced with/blessed with?  I set up in my mind what "my" "things" are and do my best to achieve them by the end of the day. Let me add that, equally as important is setting the tone or Spirit that you want to imbibe during this day. My second P is Productivity. Wow... I can't say enough about it. It is your raison d'etre! Your productivity is what gives you joy and a sense of satisfaction essentially because you have kept your word to yourself.  Some wise person once said that "all we really have is our word!" So, Think about it...if you don't keep your word to yourself...who is going to be the most disappointed? Encourage yourself even as I encourage you to live purposefully and productively to have the life you dream of and the very satisfaction of your soul!
